**Role** controls access. **Job title** is a label.

- **Role** is one of Teacher, Center Admin, or Super Admin, and it decides what the person can see and do everywhere: which pages open, which actions the server allows, what the mobile app shows. Changing a role changes their access.
- **Job title** is free text ("Lead Educator", "Assistant Director", "Cook"). It shows on their profile and in the staff list, and that is all it does. Nothing anywhere branches on it. You can write anything and change it any time without affecting access.

So a "Director" whose role is Teacher has teacher access, and an "Assistant" whose role is Super Admin can do everything. In the staff list, the job title shows as the text under the name while the colored **role pill** next to it is what actually determines access; when the two seem to disagree, trust the pill.

Practical rule: set the role for what they need to **do**, and the job title for what you **call** them.
