--- title: "A child with allergies" description: "Where to record allergies and medical conditions so they're visible to the people caring for the child." type: guide updated: 2026-07-03 canonical_url: https://help.nestlicare.com/owners/situations/a-child-with-allergies roles: ["super_admin", "center_admin"] platforms: [web] --- Allergies and medical conditions are safety-critical, so NestliCare gives them their own fields on every child, and they travel with the child wherever they go. ## Record it on the child When you [add a child](/owners/families/add-a-child-to-a-family), or edit them later, fill in: - **Allergies**, comma separated, like `Peanuts, Dairy` - **Medical Conditions**, comma separated, like `Asthma` Be consistent with wording (use `Peanuts`, not sometimes `peanut`) so the record reads cleanly. Both fields live on the Add Child form and, afterward, in the child profile's **About** section (Details tab, **Edit**). ## Where it shows up Once entered, a child's allergies and conditions appear as chips on their card, so anyone looking at the child sees them at a glance rather than digging. Because they're attached to the child, they follow the child if they move rooms or centers. ## If a reaction happens If a child has an allergic reaction, file an incident and choose the type **Allergic Reaction**. Describe what happened and what you did, and the family is notified. See [Report and review incidents](/owners/safety/report-and-review-incidents). The record in NestliCare is your backup, not a substitute for a conversation. When a child with a serious allergy joins a room, tell that room's teacher in person, and make sure any medication or plan is where it needs to be. Software remembers; people act.
