Rates go up. Done well, a tuition change is a two-minute task and a kind heads-up to families.

## Change the amount on the plan

Go to **Billing & Payments → Billing**, open the plan you're raising, and update its **amount**.

- **Invoices already generated keep their original amount.** A change never rewrites past bills.
- **Future invoices use the new amount.** The next time invoices generate for that plan, they bill the new rate.

That's usually all you need: one edit, and everyone on that plan moves to the new price on their next cycle.

## When you want the old and new to coexist

If some families should stay on the old rate for a while (a grandfathered price, say), don't edit the shared plan. Instead, create a **new plan** at the new amount and move the families who are changing onto it, from each child's enrollment on the Rooms page. Families you leave on the old plan keep the old rate.

## Tell families first

A rate change should never be a surprise on an invoice. Send a **newsletter** a few weeks ahead:

> Hi families, starting [month], tuition for [program] will be [new amount] per [period]. This helps us keep [reason: great teachers, quality food, small ratios]. Thank you for being part of [daycare]. Reach out with any questions.

See [Send a newsletter](/owners/communication/send-a-newsletter).

## Timing

Line the change up with the start of a billing cycle (the 1st for monthly plans) so the first invoice at the new rate covers a clean, full period. That keeps the math simple for you and for parents.
