A teacher is also a parent

One email, one login, two profiles. How to set up staff who have a child at your daycare, and how they switch between the two views.

It happens constantly: a teacher's own child attends your daycare, or your director is also a parent here. In NestliCare that person uses one email and one login for both sides. They do not need a second email address, and they do not log out and back in to switch.

Set it up

The order does not matter; give the same email both memberships:

  • Already staff? Add them to their family as a parent, exactly like any other parent. Because the email already belongs to someone at your organization, the parent membership attaches to their existing login. No invitation dance, no new password.
  • Already a parent? Add them as staff from Staff & Time → Staff. If the form tells you the email already has an account and offers Send an invitation instead, send it: they open the link, sign in with the password they already have, and click Accept. The staff role is added to the same login.

What they experience

A profile switcher appears once they hold more than one profile:

  • In the mobile apps, on their profile screen: a Switch Profile section listing their other role, with the note that notifications for both keep arriving on the same device.
  • On the web dashboard, in the sidebar just above Sign out: Switch to Parent view or Switch to Staff view (or a list, if they hold several).

Switching flips the whole app between the staff view and the parent view. Their pickup code, their child's feed, and their invoices live on the parent side; their rooms, clock-in, and messages-as-staff live on the staff side.

The boundaries

  • One parent profile per daycare. Their parent side shows one family here. If they genuinely belong to two families at your daycare, see Can one parent belong to two families here?
  • Roles stay separate. Being staff does not leak admin powers into their parent view or vice versa; each profile has exactly its own access.
  • Offboarding is per side. If they stop working for you, deactivate their staff record; their parent profile is untouched and their child's history stays intact. If the family leaves but they keep working for you, archive the family; their staff login keeps working.

The same trick works across daycares

A person can hold profiles at several organizations on one login: staff at yours, parent at another daycare that uses NestliCare. Invitations to an email that already has an account always attach to it rather than creating a duplicate.
