Review medication requests and log doses
Acknowledge or decline a family's signed medication request, then log each dose so the family sees it in their feed.
Families can send a signed request asking you to give their child a medication: what it is, how much, when, and for how long. You review it before the first dose, then log each dose you give. It keeps a signed record of what the family authorized and of every dose.
Admins see every request. Teachers see requests for children in their rooms.
Review a request
New requests show on your staff dashboard under Needs your attention as Medication requests to review. Admins and the child's room teachers also get a notification.
- Tap the card, then the request. You can also find every request under Medication in the Manage list (iPhone), Medication requests on the dashboard (Android), or the Medication page under Families & Children (web).
- Read the medication, dosage, times, dates, instructions and storage notes, and check the family's signature.
- Tap Acknowledge if you will give it as written. The family gets a notification that it is active.
- If you can't accept it as written, tap Decline and write a short reason the family will see, for example "Please bring the original bottle with the pharmacy label."
Log a dose
- Open the request, or tap the child under Doses due today in Needs your attention.
- Tap Log dose. The medication and dosage are filled in and the time is now.
- Change the dosage or add a note if you need to, then save.
The dose shows in the family's feed as a Medication entry, and in the request's list of doses given.
Doses due today lists the times still to give today for children who are here, in your center's time. Once you log a dose, the next time drops off the list.
You can only log a dose against a request that is active and covers today. A request that is waiting, declined, cancelled or past its end date won't accept doses.
End a request early
Open the request and tap End authorization, for example when the family says the course is finished. Requests also end on their own after the end date.
Enter a family's permission yourself (admins, web)
If a family gave you permission on paper, an admin can record it from the child's profile on the web dashboard: open the child, go to Medication, and tap Add authorization. It is saved as entered by you, without a family signature, and is active right away.
Troubleshooting
- I don't see a request the family says they sent. Teachers see children in their own rooms only. Ask an admin, who sees every request.
- "This medication request has not been acknowledged yet." Acknowledge it before logging a dose.
- "This medication authorization does not cover that day." The dose time is outside the request's start and end dates. Ask the family for a new request.
- No notification for new requests. Medication requests use the Incidents switch in your notification settings.
